May 31, 2009 - For what it's worth the ISO I'm trying to run is around 7GB, so it's the dual layer one, but I was under the. Press 'select' on the ps2 controller. Hmm, yup afraid so - I loaded HDLoader 0.8c (or something similar - has a grey.
So I copy GOW 2 with my HDLoader (probably 0.8b, elf). However the game doesn't work.
I checked on internet and now I know that I should use WinHiip. Any way to make that ripped game working from hdd?
I mean, I don't have original copy anymore, so if I can patch it on HDD or something. Or should I just get that game again. When I press version in PS2 Menu it shows me Browser, CD Player, Playstation and DVD driver.
Any way to update/upgrade it? Once I heard about DVDELF.BIN file. Does it make your ps2 working faster? How to install it?
Since it's a dual layer game you'll need to rip the disc with DVDDecrypter or IMGBurn and then ensure that you have enough unfragmented space on the HDD for the entire second layer install (i.e around 4 and a bit Gb but for safety i always ensure a full 8Gb is free myself). Then either using WinHiip or HDL_Dump you can transfer the image onto the HDD. HDL 0.8c is required to play the game too as this is patched to allow it to run.

HOWEVER - HDL 0.8b will supposedly rip and install the game fine too, so check if you've lucked out first by just using HDL0.8c to run it.if that doesn't work you're going to need the game disc again i'm afraid. Edit.sorry forgot about your second question. No it doesn't make your PS2 run faster. DVDELF.BIN just allows you to minimise memory card space usage if you decide to inject it during FMCB installation and makes the FMCB region specific. As i mentioned, since it's a dual layer game you need at the very least 4Gb of unfragmented space on the HDD you're installing too (WinHiip will give you this info). Other than that it's a simple rip, transfer then play with 0.8c. If it still doesn't work try the scan and repair option in winhiip.
If it still doesn't work try ripping the image again and reinstalling. If it still (!) doesn't work then either you're not using HDL 0.8c or you need to format your HDD and try again! Although i'm sure it'll work fine the first time.

( July 2010) () HD Loader is a program for the video game console which allows users to play games installed on the optional peripheral via. The games can be copied to the hard drive from within the program, or by using a with image dumping software that outputs to a specific custom format. The HD Loader software does not require an original hard drive to function properly, however some drives may be impossible to attach without modifying connectors. Games may also refuse to detect the drive if it is unofficial.
Contents • • • • • • Reaction [ ] Sony's public stance on HD Loader is that it is not supported and is illegal (it can enable by allowing games to be installed, then played later without owning the disc). [ ] In October, 2006, a federal court in California ordered defendants to pay in excess of $9 million in damages for Digital Millennium Copyright Act violations for selling HD Loader.
[ ] A clone of the patched version of the official version is being sold as HD Advance, is still being manufactured and can be purchased from many online retailers. Compatibility [ ] HD Loader is not 100% compatible with all PS2 games.
Some incompatibilities exist because game software depends on certain peculiarities of the PS2 drive hardware. Additional incompatibilities arise from the use of DVDs in some PS2 games, which are sometimes not parsed properly by HD Loader (incidentally, dual-layer games can only be installed from a PC but as of 0.8c it's possible to install them from HD Loader). Finally, there are intentional impediments introduced by some recent high-profile PS2 titles, such as and, to prevent them from being executed off the hard drive. In response to the limitations of HD Loader, a number of independent programmers have developed patches which extend the functionality of HD Loader to improve game compatibility or different software entirely (e.g., OpenPS2Loader). These include a fix to improve dual-layer support, one to implement a non-aligned data buffer (which allows to be played from the HD), one to defeat newer copy-protection measures (popularly known as the God of War fix), one to support the new 'slimline' SCPH-70000 series PlayStation 2 hardware and one to implement 48-bit (which allows HD Loader to take full advantage of hard drives larger than 137; or 128, as reported by HD Loader) as of 0.7c hard drives of up to 2 can be used. These have been accumulated into the HD Loader release known as 0.8b, The unofficial HD Loader is currently at version 0.8c as of April 2007.
